Kochi: Gold prices in Kerala continued their upward march on Wednesday, coming close to breaching the all-time record once again. The price of gold rose by ₹280 per sovereign, pushing the rate to ₹1,05,440, while the price per gram increased by ₹35 to reach ₹13,180.
The precious metal saw sharp fluctuations a day earlier, with prices changing three times as markets reacted to shifting trends. Despite brief dips, gold has largely maintained its upward momentum.
Gold crossed the ₹1 lakh mark for the first time on December 23 and has remained on a steady climb since then. Experts attribute the sustained rise to global market movements and growing investor preference for gold as a safe-haven asset amid economic uncertainty.
The highest-ever price recorded in the state is ₹1,05,600 per sovereign, set on the 14th. With prices now hovering close to that level, market watchers are closely tracking whether gold will soon set a new record.
