Kochi: Gold prices in Kerala have surged once again, driven by fluctuations in the international market. The price of one sovereign (8 grams) of gold rose by ₹520, taking today’s rate to ₹1,01,720, while the price per gram increased by ₹65 to ₹12,715.
After briefly cooling off from record highs, gold crossed the ₹1 lakh mark once again on January 5, and market watchers believe the ongoing ups and downs could soon push prices to new record levels. Gold had first breached the ₹1 lakh milestone on December 23, with the all-time high of ₹1,04,440 per sovereign recorded on December 27.
Analysts attribute the surge largely to global market trends and geopolitical tensions, including recent US military actions involving Venezuela. With heightened uncertainty, investors continue to turn to gold as a safe-haven investment, sustaining strong demand and elevated prices.
As global risks persist, gold prices in Kerala are expected to remain volatile but firm in the days ahead.
