Gold Prices Jump Sharply in Kerala: ₹4,840 Spike in a Day Signals Fresh Volatility

Kochi: Gold prices in Kerala have surged once again, ending a brief period of decline and underlining the growing volatility in the market. After dropping by more than ₹20,000 per sovereign (pavan) over the past five days, gold staged a strong comeback on Thursday with a sharp ₹4,840 rise in a single day.

With the increase, the price of gold touched ₹1,17,720 per pavan, while the per-gram rate climbed by ₹605 to reach ₹14,715.

Interestingly, prices had shown wild swings even on the previous day. Gold had fallen by ₹1,040 in the morning, only to rebound dramatically by ₹1,600 by afternoon. The all-time high in the state remains ₹1,31,160 per pavan, recorded on the 29th of last month, after which prices began to ease.

Gold in Kerala had crossed the ₹1 lakh milestone for the first time on December 23, marking a historic moment for the market. Experts attribute the ongoing price fluctuations to developments in the international market, with global economic uncertainty and geopolitical instability continuing to drive investor sentiment and impact local gold prices.
