Gold Prices Ease in Kerala After Record Rally; ₹360 Drop Per Sovereign

Kochi: After days of dramatic gains driven by global tensions, gold prices in Kerala have shown a modest correction, bringing a measure of relief to buyers. The price of gold fell by ₹360 per sovereign (8 grams) on Tuesday, settling at ₹1,24,680. On a per gram basis, the rate declined by ₹45 to ₹15,585.

The dip follows a sharp rally in international markets triggered by escalating tensions in West Asia, which had pushed investors toward gold as a safe-haven asset. In just the past three days, prices had surged by ₹8,440, including a steep ₹5,240 jump recorded in two phases on Saturday alone. Central banks across several countries have also been aggressively accumulating gold, further fueling the price rise. The all-time high of ₹1,31,160 per sovereign was recorded on January 29, while December 23 marked the first time gold prices crossed the ₹1 lakh milestone, underscoring the metal’s remarkable upward trajectory in recent months.
