Gold Glitters at Record Highs Again; Sovereign Climbs Above ₹1.20 Lakh

Kochi: Gold prices have staged a strong comeback in the state, surging sharply to push the price of a sovereign (8 grams) back above the ₹1.20 lakh mark. The price jumped by ₹2,320 in a single day, taking the rate to ₹1,20,800 per sovereign, while the per gram price rose by ₹290 to ₹15,100. After a brief lull, the precious metal has once again resumed its upward momentum, keeping both investors and buyers on edge.

The state’s all-time high of ₹1,31,160, recorded on January 29, still stands as a benchmark. Gold had first crossed the ₹1 lakh milestone on December 23 and has since witnessed dramatic swings. Market experts attribute the renewed surge and recent volatility to fluctuations in the international market and evolving global economic trends. Notably, at the beginning of this month, the price stood at ₹1,17,760, underscoring the rapid pace of the latest rally.
