Patna: Fort-six people, including 37 children drowned across Bihar while bathing in water bodies on Sept 25 during the Jatiya festival, the official sources said here.
Rivers and lakes have been overflowing in the State following continuous heavy rains. On Wednesday , children went to ponds and nearby rivers along with their mothers to take bath, the sources added.
The Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar expressed grief over the mishap and announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh (Four lakh ) each for the families of the deceased.
A Bihar Disaster Management Control Room official said that compensation for 20 families have been disbursed so far and the rest are in the process.
The families of the deceased blamed the authorities for lack of crowd management near the rivers and ponds , where the victims took bath , for the deaths.
