Wayanad, July 30(IVC) Following heavy landslides in Munduki and Choormala in the Wayand district of Kerala at least 44 bodies were recovered from Wayanad alone . The eyewitnesses said that they found three bodies were flowing in the following the land slides.
Five ministers have rushed to Wayanad for speeding up the rescue operations and guiding the personnel. Following heavy rains continues unabated, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur , Wayand and Kasargode had been brought under red alert.
The State Government has announced as relief od Rs 2 lakh each to the kith and kin of the deceased and fifty-thousand rupees each to the injured, the official sources said
A group of 138 army personnel have rushed to Wayand for the rescue operations and four Naional Disaster Relief Fund personnel also rushed to the spot of land slide.
Landslides from Kannur and Kozhikode districts had been reported. In Kozhikode district’d Vilengad occurred land slides four times and the town was submerged under. Landslides in Idukki and Thrissur Districts had been reported and road and rail traffic in Thrissur district was completely.
Following heavy rains in Thrisur, at Wadakanchery in Thrissur district low-lying areas were under water and following land slide on the rail tracks at Wadakkanchery, trains service was disruptedand long distance train services were terminated up to Chalakudy and Thrissur, the railway sources said.
The minister for Health, Veena Goerge said at Wayand that 23 bodies froom Wayand landslides had been recovered. Death toll in the landslides in the State likey to rise, she added. Further details were waited.IVC Ckg Wyd
