First Low-Pressure of the Month Brews Over Bay of Bengal; IMD Warns of Heavy Rains in Kerala from Tomorrow

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert as a fresh low-pressure system has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal early Tuesday morning. This is the first low-pressure system of the month, and it is expected to intensify within the next 24 hours before moving towards the Odisha coast.

The system, born out of a cyclonic circulation, is set to revive monsoon activity across Kerala. Heavy rainfall is forecast from Wednesday, with northern districts likely to bear the brunt. Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod are expected to witness intense showers midweek. On Thursday, heavy rains may continue in Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod, followed by isolated downpours in Kannur and Kasaragod on Friday.

The IMD has placed these districts under a yellow alert, urging residents to remain cautious as the monsoon regains momentum.
