Final Call for Voter Registration in Kerala: SIR Deadline Ends Today

Thiruvananthapuram: Today marks the final opportunity for citizens to add or delete names from Kerala’s electoral roll under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. Applications can be submitted online through the Election Commission of India (eci.gov.in), the Chief Electoral Officer’s portal (ceo.kerala.gov.in), or directly via Booth Level Officers (BLOs).

Applicants seeking inclusion as ordinary voters must use Form 6, while overseas voters are required to submit Form A6. Those applying by today will be included in the final SIR voter list scheduled for publication on February 21. Applications received after the deadline will still be accepted, but names will appear only in the supplementary electoral roll.

So far, more than 11 lakh applications have been filed for inclusion. The verification and hearing process will continue until February 14, with nearly 37 lakh individuals required to submit supporting documents—mainly those whose names were not part of the 2002 voter list.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has announced that 9,868 names included in the draft electoral roll will be removed from the final list. These include people who are currently abroad, deceased individuals, and voters who have relocated to other states or constituencies.

Chief Electoral Officer Ratan Kelkar said that among those being dropped, 1,441 had died during the enumeration period, 997 had renounced Indian citizenship, and 7,430 had shifted residence. Reports suggest that, except in the case of the deceased, many of these names were included in the draft list after relatives submitted signed enumeration forms on their behalf.

The Election Commission emphasized that the revision process aims to ensure a clean, accurate, and up-to-date voter list ahead of future elections.
