Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday said that the overuse of chemical fertilisers and excessive water consumption are damaging soil fertility in parts of the country.
Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, he noted that such practices are affecting long-term agricultural productivity.
The minister said the Centre is promoting crop diversification to address the issue. He highlighted initiatives such as the Millets Mission.
Chouhan added that the government is working to increase the production of millets, pulses, and oilseeds through various schemes.
