New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the launch of Phase 2 of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across 12 states. This move is part of the Commission’s nationwide effort to ensure a comprehensive and error-free voters’ list ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections in several states.
According to officials, the second phase of the SIR will include detailed verification of voter data, addition of new eligible voters, and removal of duplicate or outdated entries. The process will also involve door-to-door verification in select regions to ensure maximum accuracy.
The ECI has directed Chief Electoral Officers of all 12 states to intensify awareness campaigns encouraging citizens — especially first-time voters — to verify and update their voter information. The initiative also focuses on ensuring inclusivity, with special attention to marginalized groups and remote areas.
Phase 1 of the Special Intensive Revision covered around 10–15 states and received significant participation from the public. With Phase 2 now underway, the ECI aims to complete the updated national electoral roll well before the 2026 election cycle begins.
Officials have urged all eligible citizens to make use of the online and offline facilities available for voter registration and corrections to ensure their names are included in the final list.
