Kerala is gearing up for a fresh spell of active northeast monsoon showers as Cyclone Dithwa over the Bay of Bengal continues to weaken, paving the way for favorable easterly winds across the state.
After nearly a week of subdued rainfall, several parts of Kerala witnessed a revival of showers from Wednesday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted widespread rain across all districts till Saturday, with isolated heavy rainfall expected today.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also likely during this period.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for the districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Palakkad, and Malappuram, where heavy rain is expected at isolated locations.
According to IMD standards, heavy rainfall refers to 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain within 24 hours.
Meanwhile, pilgrims heading to Sabarimala are advised to stay cautious as thunderstorms with rain are expected there till Thursday.
