Tokyo: A powerful earthquake has prompted a tsunami warning in Japan, with authorities cautioning that waves as high as 10 feet may hit the country’s northeastern coast. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the warning follows a strong tremor that struck the region on Tuesday.
The quake, which measured 7.6 in magnitude, affected the prefectures of Aomori, Hokkaido, and Iwate. Videos of the shaking have been widely shared on social media, with residents reporting that the tremors lasted nearly one minute.
Authorities have urged people living along the coast to evacuate to safer areas immediately. As of now, there are no reports of casualties or damage, but officials remain on high alert as they monitor the situation closely.
