Driving Test Passers to Get Licence Instantly as MVD Rolls Out New Real-Time System

The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) is set to introduce a real-time licence issuance system, enabling candidates to receive their driving licence immediately after passing the driving test.

Under the new system, test results will be uploaded on the spot to the Sarathi software, eliminating the long wait that applicants currently face. Once the result is entered online, successful candidates will be able to download their driving licence instantly.

At present, vehicle inspectors upload test results only after returning to their offices from test grounds, often causing delays even when tests are conducted early in the day. The new mechanism will ensure that results are recorded at the test venue itself.

To implement the initiative, the state government has sanctioned ₹1.5 crore for the purchase of 294 laptops for MVD officials. The system is expected to be rolled out shortly.

In the past, applicants had to wait for several months to receive their printed driving licences after clearing the test. Although the shift to digital licences helped reduce delays, the upcoming real-time process is expected to further streamline operations, improve transparency, and offer faster, hassle-free service to the public.
