A sudden cloudburst in Chositi, along the Machail Mata pilgrimage route, unleashed deadly flash floods on Thursday afternoon, sweeping away roads, infrastructure, and a pilgrims’ community kitchen. At least 12 bodies have been recovered, with officials warning the toll could climb as rescue efforts intensify. Army, NDRF, SDRF, CRPF, and local police teams are on the ground, helicopters are on standby, and a 24×7 control room has been set up. Home Minister Amit Shah has pledged full central support, while LG Manoj Sinha and CM Omar Abdullah have ordered all-out rescue and relief measures. The Machail Mata Yatra has been suspended, and a heavy rain alert remains in force as the region braces for further risks.
