New Delhi: A wave of opportunity is sweeping through Delhi as luxury cars are being sold at jaw-droppingly low prices due to the government’s enforcement of a ban on old vehicles. With petrol cars over 15 years and diesel cars over 10 years no longer road-legal in the capital, owners are offloading their high-end vehicles at a fraction of their original cost.
Viral social media stories highlight stunning deals—a ₹85 lakh Mercedes SUV sold for just ₹2.5 lakh, and a ₹40 lakh Mercedes-Benz C-Class going for ₹4.25 lakh—drawing eager buyers from across the country.
The Delhi government, enforcing the National Green Tribunal’s anti-pollution directive, has installed Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras at 350 petrol pumps to identify old vehicles and deny them fuel. Steep fines of ₹10,000 for four-wheelers and ₹5,000 for two-wheelers are also being imposed.
Though the policy officially began rolling out in 2025, it’s already reshaping Delhi’s auto market. Facing public pressure, the government has softened some of the rules and may take the matter to the Supreme Court to address implementation concerns.
In the meantime, Delhi has become a hotspot for bargain luxury car buyers, offering a rare chance to own premium vehicles at prices previously unthinkable.
