Thiruvananthapuram: Even as Cyclone Montha loses strength after making landfall on the Andhra coast, Kerala continues to face the brunt of its aftereffects, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of heavy rainfall across several districts today.
A yellow alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, and Thrissur, where isolated spells of heavy rain—ranging between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm in 24 hours—are likely.
According to the IMD, Montha took nearly six hours to cross the coast and has since weakened into a regular cyclone while drifting toward Odisha. Simultaneously, a well-marked low-pressure area over the east-central Arabian Sea is moving north-northeastward, adding to the state’s unstable weather conditions.
With both systems influencing regional weather, Kerala can expect light to moderate rain or thunderstorms for the next four days, meteorologists said, urging the public to remain alert and follow local advisories.
