New Delhi: In a strong message to global tech platforms, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has called for a fair and transparent revenue-sharing system to ensure content creators receive their rightful earnings from social media platforms.
Highlighting the rapid growth of India’s digital creator economy, Vaishnaw stressed that creators are the backbone of platforms such as YouTube and Instagram, generating massive engagement and advertising revenue. “As platforms grow richer through ads and subscriptions, creators must also get a just share of the profits,” Minister indicated during his address.
The minister underscored the need for balanced regulations that protect innovation while safeguarding the interests of millions of digital entrepreneurs. With India emerging as one of the world’s largest digital markets, minister noted that young creators are increasingly turning social media into full-time careers and thriving businesses.
Vaishnaw’s remarks come at a time when global conversations around platform accountability, algorithm transparency, and equitable monetisation are gaining momentum. Experts believe that a structured and fair revenue-sharing framework could further boost India’s digital economy and provide long-term stability to content creators.
The government is expected to initiate discussions with technology companies and creator communities to work toward policies that ensure fairness, transparency, and sustainable growth in the digital ecosystem.
