To manage the heavy rush of passengers during the Christmas–New Year holiday season, the Railways has announced 38 special trains, of which 5 services are allotted to Kerala, offering much-needed relief to festive travellers.
The additional trains will connect major cities and high-demand routes to accommodate the surge in passengers returning home or travelling for celebrations. Kerala’s share of special services will primarily cover routes linking Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Kozhikode, Mangaluru, Chennai, Bengaluru, and other key destinations, ensuring better accessibility and reduced congestion.
Railway officials said the festive period traditionally witnesses one of the highest travel demands of the year, and the special services are aimed at providing smoother travel options and reducing last-minute ticket shortages. The schedules include both one-way and round-trip services across the last two weeks of December and early January.
Passengers have been advised to book tickets early, as special trains typically get filled within hours of release. Detailed timings and reservation dates are expected to be available through official railway platforms.
These additional services come as a welcome move for Kerala’s large migrant workforce, students, and families planning holiday trips during the peak season.
