“Chips Are Digital Diamonds”: PM Modi Opens Semicon India 2025, Showcases India’s Chip Power

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Semicon India 2025 at Yashobhoomi, declaring that “chips are the digital diamonds of our time” and asserting that “the world trusts India, believes in India, and is ready to build the semiconductor future with India.” Marking a milestone in India’s tech journey, Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw presented Modi with the country’s first fully indigenous 32-bit microprocessor, “Vikram,” symbolizing a major stride toward self-reliance in critical technology.

Highlighting India’s growing global credibility, the Prime Minister said that even the smallest chip designed in the country has the power to transform industries worldwide. He also noted the increasing international interest in partnerships, pointing to his upcoming Japan visit, where semiconductor collaboration will be a key focus.

With discussions on fab development, AI integration, smart manufacturing, and startup incentives, Semicon India 2025 has become the centerpiece of the government’s ambitious ₹76,000-crore India Semiconductor Mission, positioning the nation from a consumer of chips to a global innovator and trusted producer.
