China has strongly condemned a U.S. proposal urging G7 and NATO allies to impose extra tariffs on countries buying Russian oil, including China, warning that it will take firm countermeasures if its national interests are targeted.
At a press briefing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian called Washington’s push “a typical act of unilateral bullying and economic coercion,” stressing that such measures would disrupt global supply chains and undermine international trade rules.
Beijing defended its energy cooperation with Moscow as “legitimate, lawful, and beyond reproach,” noting that it fully complies with WTO principles and market norms.
