Panic gripped Kottayam Medical College on Wednesday after a section of a three-storey building housing the Orthopaedics department suddenly collapsed. The incident occurred in the 14th ward, prompting an immediate emergency response.
Eyewitnesses described a deafening crash as the building section gave way, sending shockwaves through the hospital premises. Fortunately, quick action by the hospital staff ensured the swift evacuation of patients from the affected ward, preventing a major tragedy.
According to initial reports, two individuals sustained minor injuries in the collapse. Teams from the fire and rescue services and local police rushed to the scene and launched coordinated rescue and safety operations.
