The Union Government has released ₹260.20 crore to Kerala’s local self-government institutions. The allocation comes as the first instalment of the 15th Finance Commission grant for the current financial year.
The Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj said the untied grant has been distributed among 14 District Panchayats, 152 Block Panchayats, and 941 Gram Panchayats across the state, giving local bodies greater flexibility in addressing area-specific development needs.
The funds can be utilised for projects under the 29 subjects listed in the Eleventh Schedule of the Constitution, excluding expenditure on salaries and other establishment-related costs. The release is expected to significantly strengthen local-level planning and development initiatives throughout Kerala.
