The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that the evaluation of Class 12 board examination answer sheets will go fully digital from 2026. The board will adopt the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, under which teachers will assess scanned copies of answer sheets on computer screens instead of manually checking physical scripts. The move aims to improve accuracy, eliminate human errors in marking and total calculation, and speed up the evaluation process.
CBSE has clarified that there will be no change in the evaluation pattern for Class 10 examinations, which will continue under the existing system. To ensure smooth implementation, schools have been directed to upgrade infrastructure, including computers with a minimum of 4 GB RAM, Windows 8 or higher operating systems, and reliable internet connectivity. The board will also conduct special training programmes and release instructional videos to familiarise teachers with the new system, while dedicated call centres will be set up to resolve technical issues, marking a significant shift towards a more transparent and efficient examination framework.
