Kochi: Aboon Mor Baselios Thomas I, Catholicos of Jacobite Syrian Christian Church laid to rest this evening at Puthencruz ,Patriarchl Centre near here.
Catholicos died at a private hospital here on Nov 01 after prolonged old-age illness and he was 95, the Church sources said. Three-hour long funeral services were led by Mor Joseph Gregorious Metropolitan along with several prelates and priests from various denomination of Churches .
Several eminent persons from various walks of life, including the Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan and Kerala Governor paid their last tributes to the departed head of the Jacobite Church in Kerala.
His leadership thousands of people irrespective of caste and creed paid their homage to Catholicos.
Known for compassion and approachability , Catholics Aboon Mor Baselios Thomas I inspired many through his prayerful life and engaging sermons.
His leadership was characterized by a strong emphasis on community welfare, while he played a vital role in promoting social initiatives and fostering a sense of belonging within the Community, the Church sources said. He has recommended Mor Joseph Gregorious Metropolitan as his successor, the Church sources .
