Kolkata: A catering vehicle collided with an IndiGo aircraft at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport on Tuesday, leading to the cancellation of a scheduled flight to Guwahati. No injuries were reported in the incident.
According to airport sources, the van lost control while in motion and rammed into the aircraft, which was parked at bay number 51. The aircraft, operating as flight IndiGo 6E 6663, was preparing for departure when the accident occurred.
Initial reports indicate that the impact caused damage to the aircraft’s engine. Following the incident, the services were cancelled as a precautionary measure. Passengers scheduled to travel on the affected flight were accommodated on alternative services to Guwahati, airline officials said.
Authorities have stated that the aircraft will resume operations only after a detailed inspection and necessary safety checks are completed. Meanwhile, an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the accident and whether any lapses in ground handling procedures contributed to the mishap. Further details are awaited.
