Cyber police have registered a case against social media platform X for failing to remove an AI-generated video critical of the Election Commission within the stipulated time. According to officials, the platform did not act within the two-hour deadline set for taking down content flagged as synthetic or misleading. A separate case has also been filed against the account holder, Lakshmi N Raju, who uploaded the video on X.
Police said a formal notice was issued directing the platform to remove the content in line with the commission’s instructions. However, X reportedly declined to take down the video. Meanwhile, authorities have taken action on other platforms, with 320 posts removed from Facebook and 59 posts from Instagram for content targeting the Election Commission.
The case highlights growing concerns over the spread of AI-generated misinformation and compliance by social media platforms during sensitive periods.
