Cabinet Approves National Mission on Natural Farming to Promote Sustainable Agriculture

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet has approved the launch of the National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF), an initiative aimed at promoting sustainable and eco-friendly agricultural practices across the country.

Natural Farming emphasizes agro-ecological principles, leveraging local knowledge and location-specific technologies to enhance soil health, reduce dependency on chemical inputs, and improve crop resilience. The mission aims to empower farmers to adopt natural farming methods tailored to their local agro-ecological conditions, ensuring sustainable agricultural productivity and environmental conservation.

The mission aligns with India’s goals under climate action and food security, focusing on:

  • Encouraging low-cost farming techniques to reduce input costs for farmers.
  • Promoting biodiversity and organic soil health.
  • Scaling up farmer-led innovations in natural farming.

Officials stated that the initiative would involve capacity-building programs for farmers, support for research and innovation, and partnerships with local agricultural bodies. The mission also contributes to achieving the goals outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) and the vision of a sustainable Viksit Bharat@2047.
