Kerala Chief Electoral Officer Rathan U. Kelkar has reassured that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are under no pressure during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll, emphasizing that every effort is being made to support them on the ground.
Kelkar stated that the workload given to BLOs is aimed purely at ensuring the timely completion of the revision process — not to overwhelm field staff. To strengthen operations, he has directed district collectors across the state to extend full administrative assistance to BLOs.
Recognising the linguistic diversity in border regions, the CEO confirmed that officials proficient in Kannada and Tamil have been deployed to help citizens fill out forms smoothly, particularly near the Karnataka and Tamil Nadu borders.
The SIR process is making solid progress, with nearly 70% of enumeration forms already collected. For Non-Resident Keralites (NRKs), the awareness campaign is being implemented in partnership with NORKA Roots, ensuring better outreach to Malayali communities abroad.
Kelkar also issued a clear warning that any attempts to obstruct BLOs will lead to strict legal action. District collectors have been instructed to ensure police protection wherever required, ensuring a safe and uninterrupted revision process.
This firm and coordinated approach, Kelkar said, reflects the state’s commitment to conducting a transparent, efficient, and accurate electoral roll revision ahead of upcoming elections.
