BLM Takes Over Iconic Ragam Theatre in Thrissur Following High Court Verdict

Thrissur: The historic Ragam Theatre—long a cultural landmark in the heart of Thrissur—has officially come under the ownership of Bharat Lejan Multi-State Housing Cooperative Society (BLM). Backed by a High Court ruling, BLM successfully installed its board and inaugurated its office at the venue, signaling a new chapter in the theatre’s legacy.

The board installation was led by key BLM figures including CEO Naveen S. Nair, Deputy PRO Mohanan, Executive Director Manojan, DGM Sudheer, and Balan.

The ownership transition follows a prolonged dispute between previous owner George Neeraparambil and current operator A.K. Sunil. With legal hurdles cleared, BLM moved forward decisively, though initial resistance from a group at the site prompted police intervention to ensure the court’s directive was enforced.

Founded in 2006 and headquartered in Chennai, BLM has built a solid reputation through its extensive work in housing, healthcare, and cooperative development. With 126 branches across India and overseas, the organization is chaired by R. Prem Kumar.

BLM’s acquisition of the Ragam Theatre—secured for a multi-crore sum months ago—marks a strategic expansion in Kerala, with officials emphasizing their commitment to revitalizing the space and contributing to Thrissur’s cultural fabric.
