The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is gearing up to announce its new Kerala state president by Monday, with speculations pointing to former DGP Jacob Thomas as a strong contender. The decision comes as part of the party’s efforts to strengthen its foothold in the state ahead of upcoming elections.
While Jacob Thomas, known for his tough stance against corruption, is emerging as a possible choice, the race is expected to be closely contested between the incumbent K Surendran and senior leader M T Ramesh.
Surendran, who has led the BJP in Kerala since 2020, has faced criticism following the party’s lackluster performance in recent elections, including the Palakkad by-election. On the other hand, Ramesh, currently serving as state general secretary, is seen as a strong organizational leader with significant internal support.
As part of its broader strategy, the BJP has expanded its organizational districts in Kerala from 14 to 30, aiming for a more localized approach. Additionally, the recent appointment of four women and three Christian leaders as district presidents signals the party’s focus on inclusivity and wider representation.
The upcoming leadership announcement is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the BJP’s prospects in Kerala, especially with local body elections approaching. All eyes are now on the party’s high command as it finalizes its choice for the state’s top post.
