Biryani has continued to dominate India’s food preferences, retaining the top position among restaurant orders across the country. According to Swiggy’s 2025 order data, biryani emerged once again as the most ordered food item on the platform.

As per Swiggy’s annual report titled “How India Swiggy’d” (10th edition), a staggering 9.3 crore biryani orders were delivered to customers in 2025. This translates to an average of 194 biryani orders every minute throughout the year. Among all variants, chicken biryani led the charts, with 5.77 crore orders, also making it the most repeatedly ordered dish.

With 4.42 crore orders, burgers secured the second spot on Swiggy’s list, followed by pizza in third place, with 4.01 crore orders delivered in 2025. Among vegetarian dishes, dosa emerged as the clear favourite, registering 2.62 crore orders during the year.

In the desserts category, white chocolate cake topped the list with 69 lakh orders, followed by chocolate cake (54 lakh), gulab jamun (45 lakh), and kaju barfi (20 lakh). The report also highlighted the growing popularity of global cuisines in India, with Mexican (1.6 crore orders), Tibetan (1.2 crore) and Korean cuisine (47 lakh orders) gaining strong traction among consumers.

The report revealed some striking consumer behaviour as well. A food enthusiast from Mumbai placed 3,196 orders on Swiggy in 2025, averaging nearly nine orders a day, the highest in the country. Idli emerged as the most preferred breakfast item nationwide with 1.1 crore orders, followed by veg dosa (96 lakh) and vada.

Late-night cravings showed a different trend, with chicken burgers topping orders between 12 am and 2 am, clocking 23 lakh orders. Chicken biryani, veg burgers and veg pizzas also featured prominently during late-night hours.

Swiggy also noted a surge in dine-out usage across emerging cities such as Jaipur, Chandigarh, Kochi, Dehradun, Vadodara and Mangaluru, indicating expanding food delivery and dining trends beyond major metros.
