Bengaluru: Heavy overnight rain lashed Bengaluru, triggering waterlogging and localized flooding across several parts of the city. The city recorded over 100 mm of rainfall, submerging low-lying areas and causing traffic disruptions early Monday morning.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed Bengaluru under a Yellow Alert until May 23, forecasting continued spells of moderate to heavy rainfall in the coming days.
Meanwhile, an Orange Alert has been issued for Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Haveri, and Belagavi, indicating the possibility of heavier rain and urging residents to stay cautious.
Several roads in Bengaluru witnessed water accumulation, leading to traffic snarls and delays in morning commutes. BBMP emergency teams were deployed to clear water from inundated streets and residential areas.
The IMD attributes the current weather pattern to a developing low-pressure system over the Arabian Sea, which is likely to intensify in the coming days and impact various parts of Karnataka and Kerala.
Authorities have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel, stay indoors during heavy rain, and report any emergencies to local disaster management teams.
