Bengaluru Metro Ridership Drops by 1 Lakh in 3 Days After Fare Hike; CM Calls for Review

Bengaluru: The recent fare hike by Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has led to a significant drop in ridership, with nearly 1 lakh fewer passengers using the metro in just three days. The sharp decline has triggered a public outcry, prompting Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to step in.

In response to growing criticism, CM Siddaramaiah has urged BMRCL Managing Director Maheshwara Rao to reconsider the fare revision and explore possibilities for a reduction. The fare hike, implemented recently, has faced backlash from daily commuters, many of whom have switched to alternative transport options.

BMRCL had justified the hike citing rising operational costs and maintenance expenses, but commuters argue that the increased fares make metro travel unaffordable, especially for regular passengers.

With mounting pressure from the public and political circles, the state government is now reviewing the fare structure, raising hopes for a possible rollback or reduction in ticket prices.
