Beloved Actor Kalabhavan Navas Passes Away Suddenly; Final Rites Today at 4 PM

Kochi: The Malayalam film industry is in deep shock following the sudden demise of acclaimed actor and mimicry artist Kalabhavan Navas, who passed away late last night, reportedly due to a heart attack. He was 52. His funeral will be held today at 4 PM at Aluva Town Juma Masjid, following public homage from 4 PM to 5:30 PM.

Navas was found unresponsive in his hotel room in Chottanikkara, where he had been staying during the shoot of the film Prakambanam. When he failed to check out on time, hotel staff entered the room — found open — and discovered him collapsed. Despite immediate medical attention, he could not be revived.

The inquest began at 8:30 AM today at Kalamassery Medical College, and a post-mortem confirmed cardiac arrest as the likely cause of death. His body has since been transported to his residence for final rites.

Born in Vadakkencherry, Thrissur, Navas was the son of renowned actor Abubacker. He began his career through mimicry, gaining popularity after joining Kalabhavan, the legendary arts troupe. Later, he co-founded the Cochin Arts mimicry troupe with his brother Niyas Backer, captivating audiences across the globe.

Navas made his silver screen debut in 1995 with the film Chaitanyam, and soon became a household name with his versatile performances in films and TV serials. His popular films include Mattupetti Machan, Thillana Thillana, Mayajalam, Junior Mandrake, My Dear Karadi, Kasaba, Mailanchi Monjulla Veedu, Ishtamanu Nooruvattam, and more. He is survived by his wife, actress Rehana Navas. His untimely passing leaves a void in the hearts of fans and colleagues alike.
