Thiruvananthapuram: After 43 days of a relentless relay hunger strike, ASHA workers have ended their fast but intensified their fight — launching a massive statewide protest march from Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram. The march, set to run from May 5 to June 17, aims to press their long-standing demands for better pay, pension rights, and retirement benefits.
Despite suspending the hunger strike, their determination remains unshaken. Protest venues will be established in every district, with two camps in each, ensuring the message reaches every corner of Kerala.
With the sit-in protest in front of the Secretariat now reaching its 81st day, the ASHA workers are turning up the heat on the government. Their demands include a hike in honorarium, introduction of a pension scheme, and formal recognition of their service through retirement benefits.
The protest march was officially flagged off from the protest site in Thiruvananthapuram, signaling the next phase in what is shaping up to be one of the most significant grassroots workers’ movements in recent times.
