Kerala may soon witness football history in the making, as Argentina’s national football team is exploring the possibility of playing a match in the state before the next FIFA World Cup. The exciting update came from Leandro Petersen, Marketing Director of the Argentina Football Association (AFA), during an MoU signing event in Dubai with Lulu Financial Holdings.

Petersen confirmed that discussions are actively ongoing with the Kerala government and expressed strong optimism about the team visiting India. “This would be a tribute to the unwavering love and support from Indian fans, especially those in Kerala,” he said. “Our players are excited at the prospect of playing in front of such passionate supporters.”

Adding to the thrill, he hinted that Lionel Messi might still be part of the squad during the tour, potentially giving Indian fans a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see the legend in action.

The event also featured Argentina’s World Cup-winning coach Lionel Scaloni, along with senior AFA officials. Lulu Financial Holdings, through its partnership with Lulu Exchange, has become the AFA’s regional fintech partner in ten countries, paving the way for fan engagement events and match possibilities in India.

Adeeb Ahamed, Managing Director of Lulu Financial Holdings, confirmed that discussions are progressing to host matches in India and that Kerala is at the top of the list due to its massive Argentine fanbase.

The announcement has ignited excitement across the country, especially in Kerala, raising hopes for an unforgettable football spectacle on home soil.
