Amit Shah: GST 2.0 Shows PM Modi’s Commitment to Poor and Farmers, Paves Way for Prosperous India

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has lauded the rollout of GST 2.0 reforms, calling them a transformative step that strengthens the economy while directly benefiting the poor, farmers, and middle-class families.

The revamped tax system, which simplifies GST into just two slabs — 5% and 18%, is expected to enhance purchasing power, ease compliance, and minimize disputes. A 40% sin tax has also been introduced for luxury and demerit goods like cigarettes, reinforcing the government’s focus on social responsibility alongside growth.

“These next-generation reforms are not merely about taxation. They embody Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s resolve to empower farmers, uplift the poor, and accelerate India’s march towards becoming the world’s most prosperous nation,” Amit Shah said.

Amit Shah emphasized that the reforms will lower household expenses by cutting prices on essentials while energizing key sectors such as dairy, automobiles, and FMCG. Shah added that the initiative reflects Modi’s broader vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, ensuring inclusive growth for all sections of society.
