New Delhi: The Union government has firmly reassured Parliament that Aadhaar data remains completely secure, with no instance of data leakage reported so far from the database of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). The assurance comes amid growing concerns over digital privacy and data security.
Responding to a query in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Jitin Prasada said Aadhaar, which covers nearly 134 crore citizens, is the largest biometric identity system in the world and is protected by a robust, multi-layered security architecture.
The minister said the government has deployed advanced safeguards at every level of the system, ensuring that Aadhaar data is protected against cyber threats. To maintain high security standards, the entire Aadhaar ecosystem is regularly reviewed and audited.
He further explained that Aadhaar operates under the continuous surveillance of the National Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Centre (NCIIPC). In addition, an independent audit agency regularly evaluates the system and provides recommendations to further strengthen cybersecurity.
Dynamic security testing is conducted at the initial stages, followed by ongoing cyber audits, the minister said, stressing that these measures ensure Aadhaar remains secure and resilient in an evolving digital landscape.
The government’s statement is aimed at reinforcing public confidence in Aadhaar, which plays a critical role in delivering welfare services and enabling digital governance across India.
