Kerala Launches Crackdown on Air Horns: Minister Orders Seizure and Destruction Drive Till October 19

In a decisive move against the rampant use of loud and illegal air horns, Kerala Transport Minister K. B. Ganesh Kumar has launched a statewide special enforcement drive running from October 13 to 19. The initiative aims to seize unauthorized air horns from vehicles and publicly destroy them using road rollers — a strong message to violators. The action follows a recent incident at the Kothamangalam KSRTC bus terminal inauguration, where a private bus blared its air horn and sped into a crowd, prompting the minister to order the cancellation of the bus’s permit. Stressing that such lawlessness will not be tolerated, Ganesh Kumar said the government is determined to curb noise pollution and ensure road safety. “An MLA thought a fire engine was coming when the horn blasted — even I was startled,” the minister recalled, underscoring the urgency of the crackdown.
