Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is set to experience a spell of intense weather this week, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting thunderstorms and heavy rain across several parts of the state till Friday.
The IMD has warned of isolated heavy showers and strong winds up to 40 kmph, urging the public to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
Starting Wednesday, rainfall activity is expected to pick up momentum. Yellow Alerts have been issued for Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Kozhikode, and Wayanad, where heavy downpours are likely.
On Thursday, alerts will extend to Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Palakkad, and Malappuram, while Pathanamthitta, Idukki, and Kannur will remain under caution on Friday.
The IMD classifies heavy rainfall as precipitation between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm in 24 hours. Residents are advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms and avoid activities in open areas or near water bodies.
With the monsoon gaining renewed strength, authorities have urged the public to stay updated on weather bulletins and exercise maximum caution in vulnerable regions.
