“No One Can Govern from Jail”: PM Modi Slams Corrupt Leaders, Defends Landmark Bill

Patna: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday delivered a fiery attack against corrupt politicians, declaring that “no one should dream of ruling from jail.” Addressing a rally in Gaya, Bihar, he defended the NDA government’s 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill, which mandates the removal of any minister—including the PM or CM—if convicted of a serious crime and jailed for 30 days or more.

“This bill has shaken the corrupt. Once it becomes law, their ministerial chairs will be gone. No one is above the law—not even the Prime Minister,” Modi asserted.

The PM drew sharp contrasts, pointing out that while ordinary government employees lose their jobs if detained for just 50 hours, some leaders continue to sign files and issue orders from prison. “How can corruption be fought if ministers govern from jail?” he asked, in a veiled reference to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, who remained in office despite being imprisoned in the liquor policy scam case.

Looking ahead to the Bihar Assembly elections, Modi also tore into the RJD, accusing it of dragging the state into the “lantern age” of lawlessness and backwardness, and treating people only as a vote bank.
