Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala has etched its name in history by becoming the first state in India to achieve complete digital literacy. The landmark achievement will be officially declared today (Thursday) at 4 PM at Thiruvananthapuram Central Stadium by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The event will be presided over by Local Self-Government Minister M. B. Rajesh, with several ministers and public representatives in attendance.
The digital literacy journey began in 2021 at Pullampara Panchayat in Thiruvananthapuram district. In September 2022, Pullampara earned the distinction of being the country’s first fully digitally literate panchayat—a milestone that also saw the launch of the ambitious Digi Kerala project by the Chief Minister.
Even before the project’s formal rollout, 27 local bodies in the state had already initiated efforts towards total digital literacy, laying the foundation for today’s historic declaration.
