PM Modi to Launch Bengaluru’s Yellow Line Metro on August 10, Kickstarts Phase 3 Expansion

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the much-awaited 19.15 km Yellow Line of Namma Metro on August 10, marking a major leap in Bengaluru’s urban mobility. This ₹5,056.99 crore corridor will connect R.V. Road in Jayanagar to Bommasandra, cutting across major residential and commercial zones like BTM Layout, HSR Layout, Jayadeva Hospital, and Electronic City—dramatically easing congestion near Silk Board.

The line features 16 operational stations and will begin passenger services from August 11, running from 5 AM to 11 PM. Initially, three driverless trains will operate at 25-minute intervals, with travel time end-to-end expected to be 38 minutes. Full-scale operations are expected by March 2026, with frequencies ramping up to every 5 minutes as more trains are added.

In tandem, the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for Namma Metro Phase 3, a ₹15,611 crore, 44.65 km expansion that includes the Orange Line and further connectivity for Bengaluru South and the Outer Ring Road belt—critical for the city’s booming IT and residential zones.

MP Tejasvi Surya said the Yellow and Orange Lines combined will benefit nearly 25 lakh commuters in South Bengaluru, offering faster, cleaner, and more efficient urban transit.

With all 16 stations operational from day one, this project marks a transformative shift in Bengaluru’s infrastructure—bringing the city one step closer to a seamless, tech-enabled public transport future.
