High-Stakes Debate on National Security Begins in Parliament Today; PM Modi May Address House

New Delhi — Parliament is set for a high-voltage debate today as both Houses take up discussions on two critical national security developments — the recent Pahalgam terror attack and the strategic Operation Sindoor. With 16 hours allocated for deliberations in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, the debate is expected to be intense and politically charged.

Key ministers from the government — Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar — are scheduled to speak, presenting the government’s stance on security and foreign policy. There is strong speculation that Prime Minister Narendra Modi may also intervene during the debate, signaling its importance.

From the opposition, Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, and Mallikarjun Kharge, his Rajya Sabha counterpart, will lead the charge. Prominent leaders like Akhilesh Yadav are also expected to raise tough questions on the government’s preparedness and response to emerging security threats.

All eyes are on whether the Congress will field Shashi Tharoor, who recently led a delegation abroad to explain Operation Sindoor, to speak in the Lok Sabha. The ruling NDA is reportedly preparing to showcase its global engagement strategy by involving MPs who were part of Indian delegations to foreign nations.

With national security taking center stage, today’s debate is expected to set the tone for the political narrative in the coming weeks, potentially sparking fierce clashes between the treasury and opposition benches.
