India-Sri Lanka Joint Statement: Fostering Partnerships for a Shared Future

India and Sri Lanka have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and promoting regional development through a series of collaborative initiatives. During discussions between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, key areas of cooperation included connectivity, energy, and economic development, underscoring the mutual goal of shared prosperity and stability in the Indian Ocean region.

India and Sri Lanka have signed significant agreements to enhance cooperation in various key sectors. In the energy sector, both countries will collaborate on supplying LNG to Sri Lanka, developing renewable energy sources like offshore wind power, and establishing a high-capacity power grid interconnection to facilitate electricity trade. To boost maritime and air connectivity, they agreed to develop ports such as Trincomalee and resume ferry services between locations like Nagapattinam and Kankesanthurai. Additionally, air routes between cities like Jaffna, Colombo, and Chennai will see increased flight services. On the economic front, the focus will be on sustainable development, infrastructure investments, and strengthening cultural and historical ties to support Sri Lanka’s economic recovery. These initiatives aim to foster a resilient partnership and shared growth between the two nations. These initiatives mark a strategic effort to fortify the longstanding relationship between the two countries while fostering regional growth and stability
