In a groundbreaking move toward women’s empowerment, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the LIC Bima Sakhi Yojana on June 17, 2024. The initiative by the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) focuses on providing financial literacy and employment opportunities to women aged 18 to 70 who have completed at least Class X education.
Participants will receive specialized training and a stipend for the first three years, helping them become LIC agents. This scheme also opens a path for women to advance to Development Officer roles, fostering community-level financial security and independence.
The launch took place in Panipat, Haryana, a city where Modi previously introduced the Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao campaign in 2015. The Bima Sakhi Yojana reflects the government’s commitment to achieving Insurance for All and strengthening women’s economic inclusion.
