Government Acts Swiftly to Block Websites Exposing Aadhaar, PAN Card Data

In a decisive move to protect citizens’ personal information, the Indian government has blocked several websites that were exposing sensitive details such as Aadhaar and PAN card information. The action followed a complaint by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and was enforced by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), along with CERT-In, after uncovering security flaws in the websites.

These breaches, violating the Aadhaar Act of 2016, left citizens vulnerable to cyber fraud. MeitY underscored its dedication to safeguarding data, directing website owners to strengthen security measures. The recently enacted Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, also reinforces these protections, ensuring that such violations are swiftly addressed. This proactive step is seen as a crucial measure in India’s broader cybersecurity strategy.
