Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay is set to launch the expanded ‘Vettri Payanam’ scheme, offering free bus travel for women, on Friday to mark Gandhi Jayanti.
The welfare initiative, whose name means “victorious journey”, is named after the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
Under the expanded scheme, women and transgender persons will be allowed to travel free of cost on a wider network of state-run buses across Tamil Nadu.
