Thiruvananthapuram: Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Sunday said technology can assist doctors but can never replace the human dimension of healthcare.
Addressing the 15th Graduation Day ceremony of Sree Uthradom Thirunal (SUT) Academy of Medical Sciences in Thiruvananthapuram, he said technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, digital health, advanced imaging and precision medicine are transforming healthcare.
He highlighted the importance of the institute’s newly inaugurated robotic surgery and computer-aided diagnosis facilities, while stressing that technological progress must go hand in hand with compassion and ethical medical practice.
Urging the graduating doctors to uphold the trust associated with the profession, Radhakrishnan asked them to carry “knowledge in their minds, compassion in their hearts and integrity in their conduct.” He also called on young doctors to stay away from drugs.
The Vice President noted that 60 women and 32 men received undergraduate degrees, while five women and two men received postgraduate degrees at the ceremony. He also highlighted the expansion of medical education in the country, including the establishment of 12 new AIIMS in the past 12 years.
